PECOS enrollment record lookup

Enter a provider's or organization's 10-digit NPI to find matching records in CMS public Medicare enrollment data. No login is required.

This is a dated public dataset, not a live PECOS account check. A match does not confirm current billing privileges, and no match does not establish that a provider is unenrolled.

For PPS help, choose a consultation category, then an available time with our team.

Understanding your result

What does a PECOS lookup tell you?

What is PECOS?

PECOS is CMS's Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System. Providers and suppliers use it for Medicare enrollment applications and updates. This tool searches a public extract of enrollment records; it cannot access or change your PECOS account. See CMS enrollment guidance.

Does a match mean I can bill Medicare today?

No. A match shows that the NPI appears in this dataset release. It can include an ordering/referring-only enrollment and does not establish current billing privileges, reassignment, licensure or participation with a particular plan. Confirm your enrollment with your Medicare Administrative Contractor.

What if no matching record is found?

Check the NPI and the dataset period. Public data can lag account changes, and the CMS methodology describes omissions and additional-NPI records. A no-match result is not a denial of enrollment. Check PECOS or ask your Medicare Administrative Contractor about the specific provider and enrollment.

Is this the same as an NPI or revalidation lookup?

No. The NPPES NPI Registry identifies providers. This tool searches public enrollment records. Revalidation due dates are a separate dataset: check the CMS Medicare Revalidation List and follow any notice from your contractor.

How do I apply or correct an enrollment record?

Use our PECOS document checklist to prepare, then follow CMS enrollment instructions. Processing depends on the application and any follow-up requests. Your Medicare Administrative Contractor can answer questions about a pending application; this lookup cannot track its progress.
